![]() So what are the top and strongest chess programs in the world today? Some of these you heard of,others, perhaps not: Well, enough for the opening general paragraphs! We all talked about how programs are used in cheating on various chess sites(this is many times inescapable). But this thread is designed to help YOU improve your own games when used as a tool alongside your other studies, opening books, tactical and long term strategy studies. It is important to understand "why" Fritz or Shredder(for example)made that next move and you would not have done the same. Many times,it may not appear that the program made the better or superior move, but you must play out the "length"of the line, sometimes 30 or more moves deep to understand "why"that apparent weak move was made, and eventually caused the program to develop a superior winning position.Depending upon your rating level, that one sacrifice or weak end flank pawn move the computer made may have appeared to be a lousy move, but may have eventually caused an unbeatable position.but you did not have the ability to see it!This is why you must slowly analyze all the moves the computer performed in its ply depth calculations. If you really think that the computer made an error.test it!!Play against the computer and make your best moves to defeat it!You may very well find out that the so called "error"or weak computer move that you thought was terrible, was actually a superior hidden or "stall"move to let you blunder as it may have assessed you would do and the program was able to crush you 20 moves later! ![]() Setting up a specific position of your choice or out of some book you are reading,a post game position or a position that just moved out of book(your book) by one move or more and then analyzing the various computer options vs pawn valux flux value per move, mid or endgame computer program opinions.and then comparing the computers assessments to yours as a "test"to your own chess strength, can possibly unlock some hidden abilities and insight of the game that you never knew you had within you! This thread is similar to the "more on computer program study/opening book"post which you can check out anytime. However, this particular thread will get much more involved in particular chess programs, their value in helping you study, which programs are best, but not under "all" circumstances, regardless of ELO strength and fanfare. My associates and myself have studied in detail thousands of games over the years between many engines like Stockfish,Komodo,Houdini,Shredder,Fritz and dozens more."Tweaking and tuning"these engines in various ways can make an engine perform in many different ways.Knowing more about these engines, the better UCI's and how to adjust their performance is key to intermixing the thought process behind these engines and your own combined game analysis. Chess program Q + A + info thread I will be adding to this thread over the months, probably more in 2017 than right now.2016 is a bad year for my "detailed"more time consuming input. But I will certainly strive to add a few things in 2016 as much as I can.
